Twin needles feature two needles mounted on a single shank with a cross-bar.
A twin needle creates two rows of parallel stitches simultaneously.
Cheryl Sleboda’s Tip
I love heirloom sewing “made modern.” I love the look of pin tucks.
Pin tuck feet are available in different sizes such as 3 groove and
7 groove. The way to know which double needle to use is to lay the
double needles in the pin tuck foot grooves. One size will fit perfectly!
SCHMETZ Twin Needles are available in a variety of sizes and needle types.

Linda Shadduck commented in an earlier post regarding a replacement needle for a Brother machine. While I have a different model I facexthexsame problem in finding a replacement twin needle. I believe I may be able to use either 1716 or 1774 as I am working with m.j along a leotard and material is a stretch lycra and needles need to be close together 2.o or 2.5 maybe. Do you know if any of your twin would work. My model is Brother XR1355. My owner’s manual says the same thing as in your response to Linda Shadduck in her september post.
I have had no luck in finding out if my Brother HC1850 sewing machine can use a twin needle other than the one that came with it, which is labeled in a foreign language so I don’t know it’s size. It measures about 2cm between the needles. I’m hoping to use a 6cm twin needle. Do you have a source that would know if I could use your
# 1776 6.0/100 in my machine?
Twin Needles are measured in millimeters. We found the following in a copy of your owner’s manual online. Please note the last bullet point:
Does your answer mean no you do not have a compatible needle? Does stretch needle 1774 work on stretch lycra for assembling a leotard using a Brother machine referencing the above part number in your reply?
Or possibly 1716 a universal needle?
I have a necchi machine which threads left to right, instead of front to back. Do you make a twin needle for that style machine?
Sorry, no.
Is it possible to make a 4.5/80 twin head? I have a special application i mind and was wondering how hard it would be to make a custom twin head.
According to SCHMETZ, they are not planning to add any new needles or needle gauges to their manufacturing line-up at this time. If they were to decide to do something in the future, it would require a minimum order of 10,000 pieces.
