SCHMETZ Needles
Home sewing machines require a needle with a flat shank and a scarf – that little indentation above the eye on the back side of the needle. Needles with a flat shank and a scarf are identified as needle system 130/705 H. There are over 7,000 needle systems throughout the world. Thankfully, 99% of home sewing machines use 130/705H.

Baffled by the needle package? What do all those numbers mean? Let’s review the essential information printed on that tiny pack of SCHMETZ needles. Information that will make your needle purchase and your sewing so much easier. Let’s start from the bottom of the package and work our way up.
Size: Needle size is always found at the bottom of the package. Two size designations are shown: Metric (90) and the Singer, Asian or International (14). This package contains size 90/14. SCHMETZ needles now have two bands of color on the shoulder that you can also see through the package. The lower color band indicates needle size. Blue is size 90/14.
